No preparation is required for a groin exam. Sometimes a full bladder can be helpful if the pain in your lower abdomen is related to a condition such as appendicitis. At the time of booking your appointment, please talk to our staff about this.

What is involved in a groin ultrasound?
The groin can be defined as the area at the junction of the lower abdomen and the inner thigh and should include evaluation of the hip joint, anterior hip musculature, iliopsoas bursa, and rectus femoris. Anterior pelvic tilt is a condition in which the pelvis is tilted forward relative to the femur.
It is most common in women who have had a hysterectomy, but it can occur in men as well. The anterior tilt can result from a variety of causes, including a congenital abnormality, a surgical procedure, or a medical condition that affects the pelvic floor muscles.
Does hair interfere with ultrasound?
You should not apply anything to the skin on or around your breasts on the day of your baby’s birth. If you have existing hair, it doesn’t interfere with your ability to get a clear image. If you have any questions about your test results, please contact your health care provider.
Do you need to shave for ultrasound men?
You will not be required to shave for a testicular ultrasound, though some may suggest that it can be a good idea to do so. If you have any questions about the procedure, please contact your doctor.
Can ultrasound detect groin strain?
Evaluation of groin pain in athletes may be difficult due to the location of the pain and the fact that the pubic symphyseal region is closely approximated. It is possible to determine the cause of the pain with the help of magnetic resonance imagery (MRI) andultrasound. In the present study, we examined the relationship between pain intensity, pain perception, and pain-related behaviors in male and female soccer players.
We hypothesized that the intensity of pain experienced by female athletes would be higher than that of male athletes. To test this hypothesis, a cross-sectional design was used to examine the association between the perceived pain level of female and male soccer athletes and their reported pain behaviors. The primary outcome measure was the number of times a female athlete reported experiencing pain during a soccer match.
Secondary outcome measures were the frequency and severity of soccer-specific pain symptoms reported during the match, as well as the amount of time spent in the penalty box during matches. A secondary analysis was conducted to determine whether the gender difference in pain severity was related to gender differences in soccer performance.
How is a male pelvic ultrasound done?
It is done through the rectum. You are facing away from the technician while lying on your side. A cover is placed over the transducer by your doctor. Then it enters your body. The doctor uses a small needle to inject a tiny amount of fluid into your abdomen. The fluid is then sent to a machine called an endoscope, which is attached to the end of a flexible tube called a catheter.
Does a pelvic ultrasound show a hernia?
CT do not reliably detect hidden hernias. Patients with clinical suspicion of an inguinal hernia should have their images taken. The most common treatment is conservative management, which is based on the assumption that the patient will recover without surgery. However, in some cases, surgery may be necessary to correct the underlying cause of the herniated disc.
Surgery is usually performed in patients who have a history of a previous surgery, or who are at high risk of complications from surgery (e.g., older patients, patients with pre-existing medical conditions, and those with an underlying medical condition that may predispose them to developing a new or more severe condition).
Surgery should be performed by a board-certified urologist who is familiar with the anatomy and pathology of this condition and who has experience performing this type of surgery in the United States. The surgeon should perform a complete urethroplasty, including the removal of all or part of both the urethra and the bladder, as well as a laparoscopy to evaluate for the presence of bladder cancer.
How do you ultrasound a testicle?
The sound waves are transmitted by applying a clear gel to the scrotal sac. The probe is placed over the scrotum by the technologist. The machine produces sound waves. Waves reflect off areas in the scrotum to create an image. This information can then be used to design a treatment plan for the patient.
Do you take your pants off for ultrasound?
It’s a good idea to wear comfortable clothing that can easily be removed when preparing for the exam. If you have to take off your clothes, the technologist will be able to access the area without you having to do so. If you have any questions about the procedure, you may contact your health care provider.
Does hair obstruct ultrasound?
The hair on the abdomen or chest wall will be shaved prior to the exam. This is necessary as the presence of hair obstructs the ultrasound waves and causes “blackout” of the image.
