Are Brats Gluten Free? Here’s Everything You Should Know

What meats are gluten-free?

It is possible to eat meat that is naturally gluten-free. Plain, fresh cuts of meat, including beef, poultry (chicken, turkey, etc), rabbit, lamb and fish/seafood meat, are all gluten-free. It’s important to be careful with the meat that’s been breaded, because it can contain wheat, rye, barley, oats, and/or corn.

Can celiacs eat sausages?

When rusk is added to sausages, you need to make sure they are free of gluten. Don’t drink hot chocolate if you don’t know if it has no gluten in it. Some breakfast cereals may have oats or wheat in them. Check the label to see if it is gluten-free.

Are sausages OK for celiacs?

Sausages that contain wheat, rye, or other grains are often called regular sausages. If you want to avoid these grains, you can make your own gluten free sausage by following the recipe below.

1/2 lb. ground beef, cut into 1-inch cubes 1 medium onion, finely chopped 1 clove garlic, minced 1 tsp. dried oregano 2 Tbsp. fresh parsley, chopped (optional) Salt and pepper to taste Directions: In a large skillet, heat the oil over medium-high heat. Add the beef cubes and cook until browned on all sides, about 3 minutes per side. Remove from the pan and set aside.

In the same pan, add the onion and garlic and sauté until the onions are translucent and the garlic is fragrant, 5 to 7 minutes. Stir in the parsleys and season with salt and freshly ground black pepper. Return the meat to the skillet and continue to cook, stirring occasionally, until it is cooked through and no longer pink, 3 to 4 minutes more.

Transfer to a plate and serve immediately.

What brand of brats are gluten-free?
